Reviveaphone Rewind

Hello dear readers!!!!

How are you lovely people?! It’s been ages! Ok that’s 100% our fault, but we still missed you!

You may not have missed us, but whether you care or not we are BACK! So without further ado, here’s our favourite stories from recent Tech News!

TopShop Top Pitch
Applications are being accepted now!

TopShop TechShop

Popular high-street clothing brand TopShop has announced their new scheme to help bring designers’ tech-driven clothing ideas to life!!

The company has created a one-month scheme in which budding, tech-savvy fashionistas can develop their brands, improve their strategy and refine the direction of their products to potentially be sold throughout the UK in TopShop stores.

The criteria for this scheme is extremely broad; stating only that the company has teamed up with innovation and startup fund L Marks to help designers bring “tech-driven clothing to your high-street”. This means that designers can really bring any innovative ideas to the scheme without restriction!

Which item of clothes do you think could do with a Tech makeover? Maybe a hoodie that could tell you the weather on the sleeve? Or a coat with a contactless cuff to make shopping and travelling even swifter? Let us know!!

Applications are now open for their four week scheme so if you think you could change the way we wear technology then check it out!

Eye-Tech

As Technology becomes an increasingly integrated part of our lives, it is also becoming merged with our bodies. From smart patches that can help Doctors monitor heart surgery post-op, to adding a contactless payment chip under your skin (*shudder*).

Smart Contact Lenses
Technology is in the eye of the beholder

Now, the latest next step forward comes in the form of almost invisible eye wear; smart contact lenses.

Samsung has publicly disclosed a patent, which states that they will create a contact lens with a mini camera inside the lens. Users of the contact lens can snap photos in the blink of an eye and save it onto their smartphone! The possibilities for budding photographers is endless! The idea of being able to see an amazing shot and then take it in literally the blink of an eye is astounding!

The smart lens consists of a camera, an antenna and sensors that can detect the users’ movements and connect with the external device to process data to a gadget; meaning everything is uploaded to your device instantly for lightning fast reviews of your shot.

Sony, has also got their eye on smart lenses (geddit?)! Recent research and development has gone into a contact lens that allows the user to shoot videos as they see them, and then play them! The lens will be built with an organic electroluminescence display screen that is capable of recording videos straight from the contact lenses.

Smart Lens Technology
Samsung and Sony have been developing smart contact lenses!

The lenses only need to be worn on one eye and can be switched on and off by the user closing their eyelids. Of course, this could seem pretty impractical, what with blinking being a pretty regular occurrence in humans, but the clever devils at Sony have obviously resolved this issue. They are using sensors to be able to detect the length of time an eyelid is closed for, and to distinguish blinks from voluntary movements! Meaning, much like 3D touch in the iPhone 6S, the lenses will know the difference between a quick blink or a long, deliberate eyelid closure.

Sony’s contacts also detect blinking whilst recording video, so that it can erase the black frames that result from it! Meaning that anything you record will be uninterrupted, fluid and – most impressively – shot from your actual eye!!!! James Bond eat your heart out.

The system is also equipped to correct tilted images, get rid of blur and control focus and aperture automatically. So you can be safe in the knowledge that your eye-movies will be of the best possible quality.

Technology developing smart lenses
Technological developments in wearable tech is getting ex-eye-ting!!

If that was incredible enough, users can even play the videos back by switching to display mode with a different eyelid movement set in advance! So you can see your memories appear before your eyes again!

The future really is here ladies and gentlemen!

How do you think these contact lenses will change our society? Would you buy some? What do you think could be potential issues with them? Please let us know in the comments below!!

That’s it for this week’s Rewind. We promise it won’t be as long before the next one! We missed you too much!

Enjoy the sunshine Tech-Heads!

Book an Uber from Facebook

We’ve all been in situations when you’re desperately trying to organise a group of people and it’s becoming near-on impossible to communicate everything, find a time when everyone is free and keep everyone updated. Now Facebook is giving you the option to order an Uber directly from Facebook messenger, with their new Transport option. So when you’ve finally come to a decision with your unruly gaggle of friends, you can seize the moment immediately, select the address you want to travel from and to, and notify everyone! What’s more, your Uber will even send updates on your car directly to the message group; so everyone can see how far away it is and no longer give the excuse, “You said 5 minutes” or, “You didn’t tell me you were leaving. Genius!

This will no doubt be extremely handy throughout the party season! Naturally, The social media giant is just testing the idea for now so it is only available in certain parts of the US. However, they have stated that for a limited time your first journey will be free! It’s only to a value of $20, but every little helps!

What’re your thoughts? Let us know!

Have a great day Technoids!

The Next Ford GT is to have a Gorilla Glass Windscreen

gorilla-glass-560x267

We’re sure you’ve all heard of the wonderful creation that is Gorrilla Glass. The essentially unbreakable glass is used regularly for smartphones and devices to greatly increase longevity, and boy does it work!

The glass is created by well known manufacturer Corning, who have now signed a rather exciting deal with car giant Ford. This collab could bring us some of the safest cars we’ve ever seen, as Corning are creating the windscreens for the new Ford GTs out of their famous glass! Not only are they providing the front of the car with incredible safety, they are staying true to the car’s beautiful design and replacing its glass engine cover with Gorilla Glass too.

Corning promises that the new windscreen will be thinner, lighter and stronger than anything we’ve seen before. Naturally, this is music to any car manufacturer’s ears! Less weight means higher efficiency and an increased power to weight ratio, which could essentially improve the Ford GT further, with no apparent downsides.

What’s more, Corning wanted to prove that their new windscreens can stand strong against anything that is thrown at it…literally.

Clearly, Corning have done an incredible job and, whilst the Gorilla Glass hybrid windscreen will only be available on the pricier Ford models for now, if the partnership is successful, it could be rolled out to the cheaper models. Yay for the 99%!!

What do you guys think? Would you replace your windscreen for this one? And would you consider spending more in order to have one on your future vehicles?

Until next time, have a great week Technoids!

Watch The First British Astronaut Travel To The Space Station!

On Friday, a trio of Astronauts came down from the International Space Station, making way for another lucky three Space explorers, who are setting off today. Among those chosen is Tim Peake; the first British Astronaut to travel to the ISS and the first in twenty years to even go to space!

Peak is joined by NASA astronaut Tim Kopra and Yuri Malenchenko, who you may remember from 2003, when he became the first person to marry in space

Watch the incredible video of Peake’s launch below, courtesy of the BBC!!

For updates on the launch head to the Livestream page or, for our fellow UK readers, head to BBC News, where you can access real-time updates!

We’ve also got an interesting insight into the challenges of a Space Walk, in which Peake gives us an idea of the very technically challenging side of being an Astronaut for the BBC:

It should take about six hours for the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft to reach the orbiting outpost. This incredible event will be available on BBC’s “Stargazing Live” coverage, which launches (sorry) at 7pm on BBC Two.

Congratulations Tim Peake! We wish you the best of luck and are seriously jealous!

New Robot Will Keep Your Supermarket’s Shelves Stocked

Trawling around Tescos isn’t the most entertaining of chores, but it’s made even worse when the item you braved the busy aisles for isn’t even in stock! Hopefully, this little bot is here to change all that.

tally simbe robotics

Brought to you by Simbe Robotics, this Robot is called Tally. It can scan the Supermarket shelves and notify employees if a product is low in stock or in the wrong area. Tally can even work regular hours, so it can be as helpful as possible consistently!

What’s more, the little guy comes with a dock charger, so it can be topped up whenever it’s needed.

Tally is still in testing phases in America, but when he does get here, we’re sure he’ll keep our supermarkets in tip-top shape! And maybe even entertain the kids?

Have a great day Technoids!

Ibuprofen Skin Patch Created For Direct Pain Relief

The standard Ibuprofen tablets and gels could be a thing of the past thanks to Warwick University’s new, topical adaption of the medicine. The NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) is very commonly used for pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. The difference with a topical patch however, would be direct pain relief.  Continue reading Ibuprofen Skin Patch Created For Direct Pain Relief

Amazon Is Pulling Hoverboards Due To Safety Concerns

Amid Airline concerns about so called “Hoverboards” catching fire, Amazon is now joining the side of caution as it begins to pull certain models due to safety concerns.

Volvo gave a four year old full control of their latest truck…

So Volvo won awesome PR stunt of the year award (at least in the Reviveaphone Awards) with their latest video.

To demonstrate just how tough their latest FMX truck is, Volvo put its safety in the hands of a four year old. As you would expect, chaos ensued. Sophie, the luckiest four year old in the world, was given a specially created remote control and instructed to guide the truck through an assault course of swinging boxes, hills, pits and…houses.

Whilst Sophie seemed pretty pro at controlling the multi-tonne monster, she did get temporarily distracted by a filming drone and manage to roll the vehicle into a pit.

Obviously, the entire experiment was created as a PR stunt for the company, but not only did Volvo manage to make one four year old girl the coolest toddler ever, they also successfully impressed us with just how tough the new FMX truck is. Despite literally being driven through a house, the truck was still drivable!

It probably goes without saying, but please do not try this at home…or anywhere for that matter.
